pCloud, Sync.com and Internxt can all belong on a privacy-focused cloud-storage shortlist, but they approach the problem differently. pCloud separates ordinary storage from an optional client-side encrypted Crypto folder. Sync.com describes its storage service as end-to-end encrypted by default. Internxt positions zero-knowledge and post-quantum encryption as core parts of Drive. The right choice depends on whether you value mixed encrypted/unencrypted workflows, encryption-by-default, cloud-only archiving, long-term billing options or a particular collaboration model.
Verify what is encrypted, how recovery works, what sharing features change the model and which apps support the workflow.
Lifetime billing is only valuable if the platform still fits your storage and sharing workflow years later.
The biggest architectural difference is where privacy is applied
pCloud’s optional Encryption feature creates a Crypto folder where files are client-side encrypted and the user controls the Crypto Pass. Outside that protected area, pCloud can provide regular cloud-storage functionality with a different security model.
Sync.com states that its storage service is end-to-end encrypted by default. Its help documentation also describes Vault, a separate cloud-only area that does not automatically synchronize to computers.
Internxt states that Drive uses zero-knowledge encryption, encrypts files on the user’s device and now markets post-quantum encryption as part of the service.
These are not cosmetic differences. They affect previews, recovery, sharing, local-storage use and migration decisions.

Choose pCloud if you want two storage modes
pCloud is distinctive when you want ordinary cloud storage for everyday files and a separate protected area for files that need client-side zero-knowledge encryption. That can be a practical compromise: not every file needs the friction or recovery trade-offs of a private vault.

One detail to verify is region. pCloud currently documents EU storage in Luxembourg and US storage in Dallas, Texas. If data location matters to your decision, choose deliberately at signup and confirm the current migration terms.
Choose Sync.com if encryption-by-default is the priority
Sync.com is easier to reason about when you do not want to decide which ordinary files deserve a separate encrypted folder. Its public terms say the storage service is end-to-end encrypted by default, and its security help explains that files are encrypted locally, in transit and in the cloud.
Sync also provides a Vault for cloud-only files. That can be useful when the goal is to keep archives online without synchronizing the full library to every computer.
The trade-off with strongly private architectures is that some server-side conveniences can be more constrained. Test previews, sharing, integrations and recovery with your actual files instead of treating encryption as the only requirement.
Choose Internxt if its privacy-first architecture matches your risk model
Internxt’s current Drive pages emphasize zero-knowledge encryption, device-side encryption, open-source code and post-quantum cryptography. That can be attractive to a buyer who wants privacy architecture to be a first-class selection criterion.
The important next step is operational testing. Marketing and cryptographic claims do not tell you whether desktop sync, large-file handling, recovery and sharing match your day-to-day workflow. Use a real trial with representative files.
Choose none of them if collaboration is the actual product you need
If most of your work happens inside live Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 documents, moving storage away from that ecosystem can create duplication and friction. A privacy-focused storage provider may still be useful for archives or sensitive files, but replacing the primary collaboration layer is a different decision.
For teams, start with the small-team buyer framework and define permissions, recovery and offboarding before selecting a provider.
A fair test uses the same five tasks
- Upload a 5–10 GB representative folder.
- Make one folder available offline, then remove the offline copy.
- Share a file with an external recipient and revoke it.
- Delete and restore a file.
- Sign in on a second device and verify the recovery/security flow.
Do these tasks on all shortlisted products. The service that creates the least unacceptable friction for your real workflow is more meaningful than a 9.3/10 score assembled from unrelated features.
Check pCloud’s current personal plans only after the workflow test.
If pCloud passes your storage, sharing and recovery requirements, then compare the live subscription and Lifetime options. If it fails the workflow test, a cheaper long-term payment model does not fix the mismatch.
